Coastal Engineer and Resilience Planner
Taylor Nordstrom is a coastal engineering and resilience planner with AECOM based in Houston, Texas. Her work is focused on integrating nature mimicking concepts into traditional coastal engineering designs to create elegant, functional solutions that address today’s pressing engineering problems while supporting the vitality of natural ecosystems. Taylor is passionate about helping clients envision and achieve aesthetic solutions that enhance human quality of life and biological function at all stages of a project’s lifecycle, including its day-to-day and disaster-period performance. She specializes in creating resilient designs that achieve climate adaptation goals by planning for the very real pressures of sea level change, hurricanes, and shoreline erosion on present-day and future system operation. Her work includes restoring coral and oyster reefs, creating living shorelines, rebuilding beaches, beneficially using dredged material, and protecting and enhancing bird islands and other coastal habitats in the Gulf Coast and Caribbean regions. Taylor works with organizations of all sizes—including ports, government agencies, and environmental organizations, among others—to plan, design, fund, and build nature-based solutions.
