Nina Bean

Ph.D. Student
Biological Sciences

Nina joined the FIU Environmental Epigenetics Lab in 2022 as a Ph.D. student after completing her B.S. at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and M.S. at California State University, Northridge in Dr. Peter Edmunds’ lab. Her Masters' work focused on the metabolic scaling of coral larvae and juveniles and the scaling of competitive outcomes between corals and algae with size. Nina is broadly interested in epigenetics, ecophysiology, early life stages, life history, and the adaptation and acclimatization potential of reef-building corals. She was drawn to studying corals because of the critical role they play in ecosystem function and because of their complexity even though they seem simple on the outside.
