Prof. Chris Langdon’s research focuses on coral reefs, climate change, ocean acidification and the development and testing of chemical and material interventions to mitigate ocean acidification and increase coral larval settlement success, growth, and survival on man-made structures to assist in restoration efforts. Current projects include ex-situ experiments to assess the risks and benefits of olivine and magnesium hydroxide to beaches and shallow coastal environments as a means of mitigating ocean acidification and enhancing coral growth and sexual reproductive success and studies on how corals defend themselves against heat and acidification stress at the cellular level. Prof. Langdon has been on the faculty at Rosentiel since 2005 and previously worked at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (1985-2004). Prof. Langdon earned his Ph. D in Biological Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island.
